This study presents the biology of the species Lepidorhombus whiffiagonis (ecology, nutrition, sexuality, growth weight and length) and its exploitation with the balance of catches in North Atlantic and its fishing in Celtic Sea. Yield and fecundity per recruit related to the fishing effort are estimated. The influence of the mesh size modifications is analyzed. The impact of uncertainty on the values of the parameters modelling and individual variability within the growth is analyzed. The genus is redescribed, with description of two new species, Ancylocera. sergioi sp. n., from Brazil and A. spinula sp. n., from Colômbia, and a key to the species is provided. All the species (except A. cardinalis) are illustrated and comments on their hosts and distribution are given. Keys to the sufamilies, genera, as well as seperate keys to the species occurring in certain biogeographical areas are provided. At least the synonymy, type-locality, and distribution of the species are listed. The following new taxa are described: Calliapaguropinae subfamily nov., Podocallichirus genus nov., Callianassa whitei spec. nov., Callianassa gruneri spec. nov., Callianassa ngochoae spec. nov., Neocallichirus kempi spec. nov. and Calliax doerjesti spec. nov.
